Focus
Many people failed to achieve because they focus on what they do not want ….
Very often, many people would ask me for suggestions. I remember this case, where the young couple, in their early 30s, wanting to retire immediately so they can travel around the world, spend more time with each other.
After studying their financial abilities, I realise that it’s possible. The process may take 24 months (their current home cannot be sold until one year later). They become disappointed. They told me this:
- They don’t want to wait that long
- They don’t want to manage tenants
- They don’t want to deal with contractors
- They don’t want to deal with housing agents
- They don’t want to walk the grounds to spot good properties
- They don’t want to borrow loans from the banks to buy properties
- And many many “I don’t want this”, “I don’t want that”.
- Perhaps I misunderstood them, so I asked again. They want to stop working and get paid every month so they can travel around the world. Hence, I did not understand them wrongly. They can name THREE things they want and have a MUCH LONGER list of what they don’t want.
Since then, I have been pondering.
In one of the many seminars I have attended, one speaker told me this “many people want to invest in a farm to produce eggs to sell. Thus, they need chickens. You got to feed them, you got to take care of their needs, you got to clean their shit and you got to put up with their smell and sounds they make. Once you collected their eggs, you have to clean them, process them, pack them , deliver them, sell them for money. Then, bank in the money, manage your accounts . . . etc.
She took a long pause and then continued. Many people, once learning about all these works, changed their mind and look for the next “money-making opportunity”.
You want eggs? You must deal with shit. It’s part of the deal. It comes with the deal. No way to have A without doing B.
I am a people-person. I enjoyed exchanging ideas with people I noticed that many people have a much longer list of what they don’t want vs a list of what they want, like the young couple mentioned above. Perhaps this could be the reason why they are unhappy with their lives.
So, to you, the person reading this message, can I ask you … Are you like this? Are you unhappy you’re your current situation and cannot find a way out? May I suggest to you? take a minute off your schedule this morning, and list down the things you want in life. Make this list as long as possible.
During lunch time, add on to the list. And during the travelling time back home, add on the list. After that, go back to the list and highlight the top items you really want fast and furious and ask yourself why. Why must you have this . . . why you cannot wait to have this . . . and why you deserve this. Take a few quiet moments, let the thoughts sink in.
Have you found your strong “WHY I must do this ?”. Can you share at least one “WHY” with us. I like to hear from you. I like to serve you. Type out your WHY in the comment box below.
Tell you what, to make this more exciting, we will give out 5 free tickets to our next Masterclass event for those who have the strongest why.
Go on…. Your dreams can come true.
