Cycling Makes Me Rich
For many of you who know me, you know that a large part of my adolescence revolves around bicycle.
Recently, I had a huge “aha” moment.
There IS A STRONG similarity between “cycling” and “property investing”.
Huh? Don’t worry, after I elaborate, you will get it. And no, I did not miss my meds, not that I need any these days .. or ever, I pray 😊
I have coached thousands of students. And hundreds have become successful property investors. Many have retired fast and wealthy. And there are some, a small portion, that would not invest. I always think of ways to change, to improve, my teachings so they can join their peers to achieve financial and time freedom.
Question is, how to get my message across to them in a manner that they can comprehend and nod their heads in “aha”.
And that’s when bicycle comes in.
Answer this question : can you read all the “how to” manuals on cycling and then hop onto a bicycle and peddle off?
No !
You will still need to hop onto a bicycle and paddle to learn how to cycle. No books, manuals, oral instructions, PowerPoints, info graphics, demonstrations and even YouTube video can teach you so well that you can jump from your office chair onto the bicycle seat and paddle off right away without hitting the kerbs or falling off !
During cycling, a lot of mini adjustments are happening at the same time like body twitching side to side, steer handlebars, fingers on brakes, legs pushing the peddles, eyes focus on ahead … etc. If you deviate from any of the action above, you will lose your balance and fall off the bike.
Investing is very much similar. In class, we will teach you as much as possible, answer your questions as many as possible, sometimes till 2:00 am (recently), until you have cleared many doubts. Ask you questions to make sure you get the right answers. Blah blah blah.
However, you still need to walk the grounds, interact with agents, sellers, and tenants, negotiate, adjust, issue cheques … etc. This part of Investing process cannot be taught in classrooms. One has to experience it to become an investor.
Then, there is always this small minority of students who will not do anything. They feel they are missing something. I think its fears. Fears of making mistakes, fears of losing face, fears of being called stupid, fears of losing money, fears of being cheated by agents and sellers.
To overcome this, we invest lots of resources to create a COMMUNITY. One can simply call on a fellow student in the class to go together when viewing properties.
Sometimes, we get our SENIOR STUDENTS (min, 5 properties with competency to hunt, negotiate and complete the deal) to bring you all around the properties too.
And when time permits, we conduct bus tours too.
This is the power of COMMUNITY.
So, if you have attended my class and have these fears … remember this…. You cannot learn how to cycle until you hop onto a bicycle and peddle.
You have to reach out to the community.
There is no need for more info… you have gotten more than enough from our class.
