Have you been attending courses and not reaping the desired results? this message may be for you.
On Sunday morning, while eating Hokkien Mee in East Coast Rd, I bumped into one of my students.
Ah Hwee attended our online class few months ago when everyone had to stay home.
He is a part-time actor. You may have seen him on TV.
He wanted desperately to be successful but sometime is blocking him.
Here is the conversation …
Ah Hwee : Teacher, how come I do so much, doing everything you say, and yet cannot be successful. Can you tell me what’s wrong with me?
Marko : First thing, Ah Hwee, there is nothing wrong with you. But I believe I can help you. We organise many events, online plus live, I don’t think I have seen you turn up at all for these free events. Is that correct or my bad eyesight is screwing me?
Ah Hwee, blushing : Paiseh, I no come. Everytime hor, I got something on.
Marko, adding chilli to the mee and eat : Actually hor, I have been studying the patterns of many successful students. And I have discovered something ….
Marko paused to drink cold water, thinking, this chilli could have killed me. I must live a long life. After all, got money must enjoy life, there are many cars to be driven, countries to be visited, food to be tasted, sights to behold, life to save, love to make (not to be confused with make love) and hopefully grandchildren to play with and grooming them to be the next generation leaders.
Marko said : This is the pattern, I want you to write it down.
Marko said this because Ah Hwee tends to think a lot and listen little. He tends to give problems to solutions. From my life experiences (I am 55 liao) , I realize that asking them to jot notes reduce the mental noises in their heads.
Marko continued : Many of the successful students do these things. You just need to copy them and be successful :
1. Turn up at every event (zoom or live) and gatherings (walks, cycle, lunch, dinners)
2. Be present when Teacher is speaking to you, that means no handphone, no thinking about other things, just focus.
3. Take lots of notes… Listen first then take notes. Not take notes first and then don’t understand the notes. Many people did that.
4. Stop all Inner Noise immediately .. eg, so easy meh?
5. Read all the messages on FB, Telegram chat.
6. Type your thoughts on the Comment Box, so a discussion can start. A discussion can give you clarity and “aha” moments.
That’s all, only Six points. Simple things you can do.
Marko paused to drink the coffee… good coffee, not bad for $1.20. Ah Hwee is busy writing notes. Good !
Marko raised one eyebrow and added : Oh, one more thing may help.
Ah Hwee, paused from writing notes and asked : Is that all Teacher? So simple ? Still got one more ?
Marko : YES ! and if you like one more observation, its this. . . . .
Marko paused and gestured Ah Hwee to lean closer.
Ah Hwee, impatient, lean forward : Quickly leh, don’t always pause. Say leh.
Marko likes to do this to gain the person’s full attention. There is a very good reason to do this. When the student leans forward and listen with full attention, his mind is fully open, whatever you say will highly & likely to be accepted. An impression will be made in his brains, like a dot on a piece of paper waiting to be connected into an aha moment. The more aha-moments, the more clarity this person has. Clarity leads to Power. Its no longer Knowledge leads to Power.
Marko continued : Tomorrow when you go back to office, make a list of your colleagues. Identify those who are good at pouring cold showers or telling sad stories. Don’t go for lunch or tea breaks with them for the time being. If everyone is like that in your office, have lunch alone is best.
Ah Hwee : Why leh?
Marko : No why, just follow what I tell you and stop for a few weeks. Next time we meet, you tell me again how you ok?
Marko thought to himself. Ah Hwee is easily distracted. He can go very deep into many topics and then lost in the mental maze he created himself. For people like that, its best to keep the suggestions short and sweet. If I explained more, he will have more questions, more doubts. In the end, this person is less likely to take action. Lucky not everyone is like that, it’s always different way of speaking to different types of people. For Ah Hwee, one needs to keep the plans short and sweet. I have traveled around the world as a salesperson. Unknowingly I have developed very good skills to speak to different people using different methods. This skills has help me to help many students. Hence you can read about their successes in our FB accounts and website.
I am sure in near future we will hear from Ah Hwee again.
If you are like Ah Hwee, attending any seminar and not taking action, perhaps you can, in future, copy the six habits of the successful ones above.
A good life can be had by learning from the right coach, supported by the right community.
Don’t wait too long. Especially when you are into properties. Once every six to ten years, there will be a major down cycle, and the window only opens for a year or so. With the low interests’ rates, and buyers’ market, its time to scoup up precious properties at huge discount. If not now, when ?
Love,
Marko
